Now I can also see it as if i was looking at it from underneath i.e. it is climbing with its bottom rim (nearest us) up, and will soon clear the fence.Lucashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07642126053527835870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13609842.post-37343014508328423552011-12-21T12:44:27.544+00:002011-12-21T12:44:27.544+00:00Tom Thank you. However having realised that 10 cents was not the answer, I tried to work out how it came to be 5 cents. I thought that an equation was involved but had forgotten how to go about it. For this relief much thanks.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06972049290586377462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13609842.post-7841563488398061592011-12-21T10:19:23.264+00:002011-12-21T10:19:23.264+00:00Yes, the mathematical observation shows a clear ne...Yes, the mathematical observation shows a clear need for the solution of two simultaneous equations:-

x - y = 100 (1)
x + y = 110 (2)

(1) - (2) gives y = 5 cents.
and x = $1.05

where y is the cost of the ball,
and x is the cost of the bat.

Sorry for being such a clever clogs, but I don't often get the chance, (especially with St. Lucy around).Tomnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13609842.post-81747984269028061662011-12-21T09:35:15.425+00:002011-12-21T09:35:15.425+00:00The flying saucer is in fact the top of a one one ...The flying saucer is in fact the top of a one one those heaters used to keep people - usually smokers - warm when they are sitting outside a pub in chilly weather.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06972049290586377462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13609842.post-59485610926422037272011-12-21T02:16:55.835+00:002011-12-21T02:16:55.835+00:00Okay...now I'm really confused.
