holiday stories lightening

After the storm. The normally calm Saint Sebastian beach in Sitges is over run by high waves which this morning leave lakes and lagoons in the sand.  This was in fact several mornings ago.  One of several  holiday memories which will follow in the days ahead. Home yesterday my head  full of stories. While this blog was suspended for a few days, I set out and more or less succeeded in writing a story a day for my new blog One Fine Day.  http://www.hnjh.blogspot.com. More to come.

While we are having breakfast outside the hotel the sky darkens. A thunderstorm performs out at sea and lightening dances over the horizon. People stand by the railings above the beach their cameras held above their heads  to catch the lightening on screen.

The smooth paving above the sea is ideal for skate boarding.  In the busy lunch hour skate boarders weave among strolling pedestrians and dogs.

We have going there for at least 15 years. So we might have met.

Interesting. My journal says 'handsome men sitting on the terrace and some walking by'.

I suppose you were almost, but not quite, out of season at Sitges. The latter has been a very fruitful season for novelists and short story writers perhaps because (I take a cynical view) the cast of thousands is reduced from dozens to a handful. However we know of one great writer who wasn't fazed by multitudes: Proust's long visit to the seaside, with his Grannie, is one of the most enjoyable passages in the whole book. I await developments.

Ellena Handsome men are still much in evidence. A part of the scene which Heidi and I enjoy, Heidi more than I.

RR We are out of season and intentionally. The season is by all accounts nightmarish. I think of Balbec when in Sitges, though the resemblances are few. In fact Balbec serves as some sort of excuse for returning year after year on such an unadventurous holiday.

Welcome back. Sitges has become a welcome part of the virtual year!
